What will be your favorite memory from the summer of 2018?

Well, here we are folks. Summer is winding down, kids are returning to school, baseball playoff talks, and pre-season football on television. What will be your favorite memory from the summer of 2018?

As I reminisce about some of the fun things my wife and I did this summer, I consistently return to our two visits to Lake Michigan.

Having never spent much time around the Great Lakes, taking the time to visit twice really had me falling in love with one of the most incredible destinations of the Midwest.

Check out our post from the first visit we made to Lake Michigan HERE

Visiting both the Illinois and Michigan sides of Lake Michigan, I came away with a new love for Lake Michigan. If I had to choose a favorite of the two Lake Michigan visits, it would be our visit to the Michigan side of the lake. Why? Well, the Michigan side of Lake Michigan just seemed to have so much more to see. Some of the highlights, as you can read about in our previous post, but the Dunes are incredible and something you really only see on the Michigan side of the lake.

Illinois side of Lake Michigan was equally beautiful, however, it is mostly surrounded by the metro Chicago area and surrounding suburbs. Nothing wrong with that because there are certainly lovely sights to see, just not the experience I enjoy the most.

I clearly need to venture further north on the West side of Lake Michigan to say that the East side of the lake is more beautiful. Still, though, our visit this year to Michigan will be one of the highlights of my summer.

We are already planning future visits to the Great Lakes and all they have to offer.

Below are some of my favorite photos taken during our adventures. Obviously, from two different vantage points, we got to witness some incredible sunrises and sunsets – I am completely torn on which was my favorite. You decide and tell me which you all like the best.

There you have it. My summer of 2018 summer highlight is for sure Lake Michigan.

So, if you have never visited the Great Lakes region, you really must do that. There is just something about the Great Lakes AND the Midwest that you just can’t get anywhere else.

Thanks for reading and get out there and see our beautiful world.

  1. I also visited Western Michigan this summer and it was spectacular. I live on the other side in Wisconsin and we have some beautiful spots. I love your photo essay of sunrises and sunsets. Did you get as far north as Sleep Bear Dunes N.P. or Travers City. It was incredible up there…and great beer.

    1. Thank you for the kind comments. We stayed around South Haven area and then in very northern part of Illinois for our second trip. I loved Michigan so much. We are already talking about our next visit – Grand Haven has our attention right now but we hear Travers City is lovely as well. Sounds like more than one trip to me 😉. Thanks again 🙏🏻

  2. Your photos are amazing! I hope one of my future summer memories includes time in this gorgeous part of the Midwest!

    1. Oh, you most definitely should. I’ve lived here my whole life and never really paid much attention to the Great Lakes until this summer and I am so sorry to say that now. Wonderful locations all along the lakes with some fabulous Midwest charm. Thanks for the kind comments and for taking the time to look at my page 🙏🏻

    1. It was very relaxing. Different times of the day for relaxing but both equally great ways to begin or end a day. Thanks for stopping by.

    1. The ones from Illinois side are taken near Zion at Illinois Beach State Park. Nice destination. We had fun there too. Thanks for stopping by

    1. Thank you – I’m equally happy with a sunrise or sunset. Both are lovely in unique ways. Thanks for the kind comments
