3 Things We Love About Fall
Happy October my friends and readers.
Fall is one of those seasons that I think pretty much everyone loves to see come each year. Here is my take on 3 Things We Love About Fall.
Fall Color
This one is pretty much a given. I don’t think anyone I know does not like to see the robust color of the trees as they change from green to red, yellow, orange, or a mixture of all those.
Did you know that the reason leaves change color is due to the change in daylight hours accompanied by cooler temperatures, which breaks down the chlorophyll – the food making chemical the trees need for growth?
Cooler Temperatures
Ok, so this one may not be as big of a hit with some because they hate the cold weather that soon follows. However, if you live in regions where summer temperatures get very warm, you probably are glad to see fall come along for some cool relief.
Here in the Midwest, summers can be very long and very hot. This year has been rather hot, so cooler temperatures are a welcome change.
Also in the Midwest, fall is as much a part of who we are as say corn or cattle. Fall means it’s time for some of the best parts of the Midwest – fall festivals, hayrack rides, bonfires, scarecrows, and comfort food.
Did you know that what we now refer to as Autumn or Fall was once just called “Harvest”? Around 1500, there was only Summer and Winter. Somewhere around the 17th Century, the term Fall began to be used, and it coincides with when Spring was first used. Interesting.
Comfort Food
One of my favorite things about fall – the food.
As the temperatures cool down we switch from the grill to the oven and move from the patio to the table. What better way to enjoy fall than some good old fashion comfort food.
I’m talking about Chili, Chicken Noodle Soup, Fried Chicken, Pot Pie, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy (brown), French Onion Soup, and fresh Pumpkin or Pecan Pie.
All of these great foods are also a great segue to all the great holiday foods we love to feast on here in the great United States of America. For any foreign readers out there, feel free to tell us what your favorite foods of fall and winter are. We’d love to hear from you.
So, there you have it. My 3 Things We Love About Fall.
You really cannot just stop at three things because there are really so many other things. If you have a favorite thing you love about fall, drop us a comment because we’d love to hear what you think about your favorite things are.
What do you like about fall?
Warm clothes, hoodies, open windows, frost in the mornings, fall baseball, football, and oh yes, I cannot forget Pumpkin Spice – gross, but if my wife reads this she’ll curse me for forgetting Pumpkin Spice 🙂 Tell us what your favorite things about fall are.
In conclusion to this post, I want to let everyone know that as fall and winter arrive, keep an eye out for some of my posts about Microcations. During the summer I am usually spending my time outdoors camping, hiking, running, or just enjoying time with family. However, when fall arrives, my wife and I start wandering around the Midwest enjoying some really fabulous, underrated destinations. Watch for those posts.
Here are some of my favorite fall photos so far for the year. Until next time – Thanks for reading.

Love fall and all the food that comes with it — apple cider donuts and pumpkin spice lattes!
Oder donuts – forgot about those. Yum

I love fall hikes. That’s I look forward to most each year.
I love everything about fall, except that it signals winter is coming. I’m not a fan of that season.
I am patiently waiting for the cooler weather in Cincinnati! This weekend was 90 degrees!
What?? You got what we had earlier in the week. 60s the past three days here and it’s been nice. Thanks for stopping by
Beautiful photos! Love fall colors, football, cooler weather and hoodies and October baseball (even with the Cubs loss, but the Yankees better not join them).
That’s funny – buddy of mine who is a big Cubs fan said he would probably pull for American League now that the Cubs are out. I forgot apple cider in my post – warm apple cider with cinnamon in it. Ok, that sounded a little feminine but I don’t care 😂 Thanks for reading
😁
Scarves and boots are an important part of my fall. 👍
For sure – scarves for ladies is like a staple for fall. My wife has a closet with just scarves – what’s that about??
I’m still waiting for the dry weather and sunny days of fall. Way too wet this year. My lawn won’t stop growing.
Very dry in Central Illinois. Still pretty warm but we’re headed for some cool weather later in the week – see some big changes next week. Thanks for reading Jim 🙏🏻
