Nike Run Swift 2017 Review

The Nike Run Swift 2017

A great shoe by Nike for a very affordable price.

The Run Swift is my favorite running shoe for the road, track, and light terrain conditions.

My running experience is amateur, only in the sense that I am not a competitive runner, with an average per week miles of 10 to 15. My use of the Nike Run Swift is pretty much exclusively road with an occasional gravel road or grass path. My pronation is neutral and regular width.

I have tried many, many running shoes over the years only to be disappointed either in the price or comfort at the end of the day. I used Nike a few times in the past but we are talking several years ago, and my running commitment was less than serious. And, let’s face it, Nike has really increased its stake in the running shoe market with a lot of serious research and development.

On to the shoe:

I have about 140 miles on the current pair of Run Swift, and as mentioned above, used pretty much on just pavement. Two things about the shoe that I think really set it apart from other shoes I have worn – Lightweight and breathable construction.

I suffer from lower leg fatigue when I run and the longer the run the more I feel my shoes on my feet. So, lightweight is an advantage in my book. Other shoes with a heavier construction and/or materials will fatigue me much quicker than these Nike Run Swift. Specifications have the shoe at 9.5oz, but I weighed mine and they came in at just over 8oz each.

The only modification to my shoes is an aftermarket insert. I use Sofsole inserts in my running shoes – makes all the difference for me.

Pros:

  • Lightweight
  • Cool and breathable
  • Flywire construction on the sides provide extra support for the mid-foot
  • Great price point – at around $70, the Run Swift is a bargain running shoe
  • Durable construction so far. At 140 miles there are no signs of failure

Cons:

  • With the lightweight of these shoes, you are kind of restricted to a smooth surface. Not sure that is a drawback to the shoe – I use a different shoe for running trails or more aggressive terrain.
  • Aggressive runners might wear these out very quickly
  • Limited stability – If you need a stability shoe this is not for you

As you can see – still looking good with no signs of construction failure.

If you click on each photo you can see the tread still looks good and that I am absolutely a neutral step runner. No signs of the sole coming apart. Also, you can see that I have removed the Nike inserts and replaced with Sofsole.

My rating on the Nike Run Swift would be 4 out of 5 stars. I really like this shoe and I would say I have found a home again with Nike – at least for road shoes.
